Winter at Manoir Hovey in Quebec, Canada

filed under:

Winter at Manoir Hovey in Quebec, Canada is pure magic. This post isn’t sponsored. I just loved my experience so much that I decided to dedicate a whole post to. The resort was once a grand private summer home. The property is stunning. It’s nestled on the shores of Lake Massawippi. During our winter stay, Manoir Hovey was blanketed in fresh fluffy snow and the lake was frozen so everything was white as far as the eye could see. I could have stayed for two weeks without getting a single itch for the city!

P.S. Today’s post is my last from my Canada trip last month… read my full Travel Guide to Quebec City & Montreal here!

Experiencing the countryside of Quebec at Manoir Hovey just increased my love for Canada. I have such a travel bug to explore more of the country. So often, I head to beach destinations, so I thoroughly enjoyed being on a lake for a change. It was peaceful, beautiful, quiet, and inspiring.

I wore lots and lots of cozy clothes on this trip! I wore a fuzzy plaid scarf (old – similar on sale) and comfy fair isle sweater around and felt right at home with my surroundings. My sweater keeps selling out and getting restocked so if you love it (on MAJOR sale!), then keep an eye on it if it’s not currently available in your size. The sweater runs a bit oversized so you can live in it all day! I also love these three fair isle sweaters: one, two, three (cute for winter into spring!).

Fair isle sweaters are great to buy now on sale. They are a winter staple. So you’ll be happy with them the rest of this winter and next winter when the cold air hits and you’re prepared with a budget-friendly sweater. The same goes for plaid scarves… you can wear the same ones for years on end! Shop more of my favorites (mostly on sale!) below. I must add in that I’m obsessed with earmuffs. Sometimes the only part of my body that gets cold is my ears so these babies do the trick. Plus, they make every outfit fun! I also love this pair and this pair (hello cute pearl embellishing!).

I also practically lived in my Sorel snow boots on the trip (more here, here, and here). They are the most comfortable, practical, and warm snow boots. My sister had major shoe envy the whole time! I’m bringing them with me today to Jackson Hole. Year after year, no other snow boot is better and they last forever!

The hotel has 37 rooms that are all decorated differently in a mix of quaint ditsy floral patterns and mountainy antiques. The rooms also have gas fireplaces and incredibly comfortable beds (fairly hard, which I like!). The hotel also has a cozy library that just begs for its guests to settle in for an evening by the fire playing monopoly (or one of the other games they offer). The food at Manoir Hovey is undeniably delicious. There’s a tap room full of kitschy decor, fireplaces, and antiques as well as a restaurant with sweeping views of the lake.  I’m telling you, this place is unbelievable! We had evening drinks in the tap room and the rest of our meals in the restaurant.

My parents are actually going to Canada this summer to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary. They weren’t planning to spend anytime in the Canadian countryside. My sister and I were so infatuated with Manoir Hovey after going that we convinced them to spend two nights at the lakeside hotel. Other than taking in the beautiful scenery and the perfectly placed decor, there are so many activities to do on the property. We ice fished since it was January. However in the summer and fall, we heard everyone canoes, fishes, and spends afternoons on boats. It sounds like summer camp!

  1. I want to explore Canada in winter so much! That looks so beautiful! My husband and I did our honeymoon in July in Vermont and popped into Montreal for a day and loved it, but obviously just got a taste. We can’t wait to go again!
