Here’s the truth, I love apple picking. It’s one of the best things to do during fall! I’ve dragged Edwin apple picking every fall for the last handful of years. It brings me great joy but always makes Edwin laugh as we’re often surrounded by families and young kids. I think apple picking is a staple fall activity so I wanted to share some fall apple picking outfits with y’all. I love to go apple picking for the experience to appreciate autumn weather, flavors, and scenes. Perhaps the best part of apple picking is bringing bunches of apples home to use for different apple recipes… pies, muffins, breads, crisps, butters, jams, and more. To get in the spirit, here is some inspiration for what to wear apple picking.

What To Wear Apple Picking
Corduroy
When I think of fall, I think of corduroy. Corduroy is comfortable and super warm. I also love corduroy so much because it is a welcome change to blue jeans, which I find myself wearing so often in the fall. Shop corduroy here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here.
Plaid
When enjoying outdoor fall activities, wearing a bit of plaid is always a good idea. Plaid is generally warm (especially if it’s flannel!) and very festive for autumn. Pair a plaid top with a pair of blue jeans for an effortlessly easy outfit. I love the look of wearing a plaid shirt unbuttoned with a comfortable tee underneath and tucked into jeans (here and here) as well as plaid blazers. Shop plaid tops here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here.
Argyle
Every season has its go-to prints. Spring and summer have ditsy florals, tropical prints, and paisleys. Fall has plaids, tartans, animal prints, and argyle prints. Argyle prints are smart and preppy. They always make me feel nostalgic for going back to college in the fall! Shop argyle here, here and here.
Bean Boots
Preppy activities for fall call for Bean Boots! There is nothing that says fall (especially New England fall!) more than Bean Boots. Bean Boots are comfortable, they last forever, and they are durable. Shop Bean Books here and camp socks (to complete the look) here.
Barbour Jacket
Barbour Jackets are timeless and one of the most smart looking layers around. I absolutely love the classic ‘Beadnell’ style but you can’t go wrong with any Barbour style. Shop Barbour Jackets here, here, here, here, and here.

4 Outfits Ideas
Neutral Browns Outfit
I wore this outfit of neutral browns last fall in Vermont for an afternoon of apple picking. I love the mix of tans and browns in the outfit with the pops of blush, white, and mustard. The outfit is perfect for apple picking because I wore warm chocolate colored corduroys and a smart argyle sweater. My blush tennis shoes are the perfect footwear for being outside and lots of walking around. More of this look from Vermont here!

Sweater Blazer Outfit
The apple orchards of North Carolina, where this outfit was shot, were so beautiful! We had a lovely afternoon searching for the very best apples as we enjoyed apple picking on this trip late in the season. I stayed warm bundled up with a plaid shirt and a sweater blazer (long version here). Another apple picking outfit = another corduroy outfit for me! I accessorized with a wide brim hat that matched my chocolate brown loafers. More of this look from North Carolina here (p.s. we were outside of Asheville)!

Barbour Jacket Outfit
Barbour jackets are an absolutely timeless wardrobe piece to have in your closet for the fall and winter. It is the perfect jacket for an apple picking outing. Layer a Barbour on over a plaid, houndstooth, windowpane, or reversible scarf as well as a turtleneck, or a fleece. More of these looks from the Berkshires, Boulder, and Vermont.

Utility Pants Outfit
Don’t get me wrong, I’m always a fan of blue jeans, but I also love wearing denim alternatives in the fall. Enter the utility pant. I just love them. Give me utility pants, cargo pants, chinos… I wear them all! Snag my below look here: pants (old – similar, similar) // sweater (old – similar) // coat // purse // loafers. More of these looks from Charleston here and here and Maine here.

I hope this apple picking post gave you some fall inspiration! If apple picking isn’t already on your fall bucket list, it’s not too late to add it as a festive outing! Cheers to the best season! xx
