As promised in yesterday’s post, I’m sharing a huge life announcement for our little family. It’s the start of something new around here for Edwin, our pup Maybelle, and me… we bought a house in Charleston! When we moved to Charleston, we did so on a temporary basis to see how it would work with Edwin’s career. Well, so far so good! When we bought our house, we did so knowing that Los Angeles isn’t going anywhere and that we can still move back at any time we need to or want to. So, with that, a little about our new house..!
We’re first time home owners so to say we are excited, proud, and overwhelmed with joy is an understatement! It is a lot of work buying a house and we learned so much along the way. We put offers in on a handful of different houses that we ultimately lost. Also, we went through the ups and downs of excitement and anxious energy to stress and sadness but, looking back, none of those houses were right for us. Finally, we found our house, a traditional Charleston single house built in the second half of the 1800s, and immediately both knew it was the right house for us. We put an offer in and considered ourselves so lucky to then be able to call it ours.
We bought our first house in Charleston!
Honestly, we aren’t moving in right away, which is killing us but making us so excited at the same time. We’re doing a partial remodel on the house to update the kitchen, bathrooms, one main room, and to do necessary work to the foundation of the house. Our house is a historic home so we were thrilled when our friends Julia and Thomas turned us onto Olivia Brock one day at brunch. We are working with Olivia to maintain the historical integrity of the house and keep it aligned with the era it was built. Be sure to follow me on Instagram because I will definitely be sharing the remodel progress with y’all!
While I most likely won’t ever show photos of the front of our house (although it looks like a thousand other Charleston single homes!), I will definitely be sharing our house with y’all over time and once we move in! It looks like we will move in in early 2019 and will be furnishing our house as we go for a little while after move in (p.s. it’s expensive to fully furnish a house!).
Thank you all for your love and support!! Our hearts are full and we’re so excited to be able to say that we’re staying in Charleston. It feels wonderful to be planting some roots! xx, Jillian & Edwin
