Summer Reading List 2016

Summer means it’s time to pick up a good, juicy beach read. I’ve spent a solid amount of time rounding up the books I’ve been enjoying lately and researching the books I’m dying to put in my beach bag this summer. So, I give you my Summer Reading List 2016. I promise there’s a book for everyone – some historical fiction, a thriller, a love story, and some major page turners! Get reading book worms.

Summer Reading List 2016:

1. “The Nightingale” by Kristin Hannah: My favorite books to read are historical fiction novels. So, I’m very intrigued by this book! It’s the story of two sisters growing up during WWII in Nazi-occupied France – one sister lives in Paris and one lives in the countryside. The girls both contribute to the French Resistance in different ways and learn to find love out of it all. Oh, and Amazon named “The Nightingale” one of the top 5 books of 2015 and it’s a #1 New York Times bestseller.

2. “Opening Belle” by Maureen Sherry: Attention, attention! Reese Witherspoon is turning this novel into a movie. Should I go on or are you sold? If you need a bit more, the story revolves around the life of women on Wall Street (we’ve all seen The Wolf of Wall Street so now it’s time to read this book).

3. “The Lake House” by Kate Morton: Set lakeside in Cornwall and in London, this book tells the story of a successful writer who looses her brother and the path her life takes when it crosses with the path of a new detective.

4. “The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson” by Jeffrey Toobin: Did you watch The People V. O.J. Simpson this spring on TV? Yup, I did! This is the book that the TV show was based on so it’s the perfect read if you’re still intrigued by O.J.’s arrest and murder trial.

5. “Sweetbitter” by Stephanie Danler: Food lovers, restauranteurs, and New Yorkers will gravitate toward this novel. It follows a year in the life of a girl who moved to New York City and started working in a famous restaurant.

6. “Girl at War” by Sara Novic: This story becomes larger than life right on the pages in front of you! The book goes back and forth between the past and the present as it tells the story of a young girl who grew up in war-torn Croatia and ended up in New York City as a NYU student.

7. “Along the Infinite Sea” by Beatriz Williams: I’m really excited to read this book on the beach this summer because I loved “A Hundred Summers,” which is a past book from Williams (I included it in my 2014 Summer Reading List). The historical novel tells the story of star-crossed lovers in pre-war Europe but there’s a twist, it’s told through flashbacks.

8. “Fool Me Once” by Harlan Coben: If you’re a thriller buff then this is the book for you. This suspenseful mystery will have you on the edge of your seat (or deeply stressed if you’re easy to scare like me!). The story goes something like this: a mom checks up on her nanny cam and sees her husband playing with her daughter. Hold up, her husband was supposedly murdered two weeks prior. Eeek! *** This book didn’t fit on the roundup but it was supposed to be there.

9. “After You” by Jojo Moyes: This book is the sequel to the hit “Me Before You” (which is currently in theaters as a movie). If you were left wondering more about the characters then pick up this story for your summer read.

10. “A Fine Imitation” by Amber Brock: A look into the privileged world of 1920s Manhattan through the eyes of an elite socialite trapped in a boring marriage. She also just so happens to but tempted by an mysterious French painter. Oooh la la!

11. “When Breath Becomes Air” by Paul Kalanithi: A sad yet inspiring memoir from a neurosurgeon who was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

12. “The Singles Game” by Lauren Weisberger: From the author of “The Devil Wears Prada,” this highly anticipated novel is sure to be an ace. It’s the story of a gorgeous rising tennis star who gets a new coach and suddenly becomes the talk of the town. It makes you question how far you’d go to get to the top.
