I’m so excited to be chatting with a lovely friend of mine this month for my interview series. I’m currently sitting pretty with Sakura Considine of the Bloguettes. Sakura is a real triple threat because she’s a co-founder of the media company Bloguettes, she runs her own fashion, beauty, and lifestyle blog called Something Sakura, and she’s just an all-around beautiful person inside and out. I’ve been so lucky to get to know her through mutual friends so I’m thrilled to be able to give you a glimpse inside her busy life. P.S. If you’re looking for help to grow your business or your blog then I seriously suggest checking out Bloguettes. I attended a LA workshop they hosted and I learned so so much (plus they have so many online resources available too). As a friend, I’m biased but I wouldn’t recommend something I didn’t believe in – Bloguettes is amazing! So, without further ado, here’s my Sitting Pretty With Sakura Considine of Bloguettes interview:
Sitting Pretty With Sakura Considine of Bloguettes
Name: Sakura Considine
Neighborhood: Phoenix, AZ
Job: Co-Founder / Creative Brand Director at Bloguettes and Content Creator at Something Sakura
Instagram Handle: @sakuraconsidine & @bloguettes
Let’s talk business…
You started your own company, Bloguettes. What has been the most rewarding experience?
Oh man… there are so many rewarding experiences from starting Bloguettes! I think primarily, it’s extremely rewarding for us knowing that we are helping creative entrepreneurs with different tools & strategy to help grow their business. The other most rewarding thing is knowing that we’re making a difference in our employee’s lives. They all love & enjoy their job so much and we’ve grown significantly as a team to help with the success of Bloguettes.
Describe your company in 3 sentences or less.
Educational, fun, and motivational
On top of Bloguettes, you also write your own blog. How do you balance both?
I honestly have no idea. Haha. I can definitely strategize more with my blog, but Bloguettes really is my full time job. I come into the office at 8am and by the time I blink it’s already 5pm. Although my job at Bloguettes is pretty creative, my blog is really my creative outlet. I never wanted my blog to become a chore and I wanted to work on my blog when I can give 100% of my creativity & thoughts. I don’t blog as much as I would like, but I typically work on it during the weekends on a Sunday afternoon! Again, I should probably strategize more, but I think when it is too strategized, I personally feel like it takes the authenticity away from a personal blog.
What is a typical day in the life of Sakura?
My workday typically starts at 8am and I try to get through my inbox first thing in the morning before all of my meetings start. I have a lot of meetings throughout the day with different departments within the company, individuals, brainstorming sessions, and a lot of photo shoots. After work, I typically go to a workout class like HIIT & boxing (I’m obsessed with those) and end the night working on my blog while watching some trashy TV- Kardashians are my guilty pleasure.
What keeps you inspired & motivated at work day-in and day-out?
It’s extremely easy to feel discouraged when you’re a business owner. There’s a lot of pressure to succeed and do things the right way, while you’re just trying to focus on your products & services. I think having a great business partner like Lorena helps me stay inspired & motivated- we really pull each other up when we’re down! I think what’s also important is to feel good about yourself. I think when you feel good, you look good and taking care of yourself is very important. As a business owner, your mind doesn’t stop- you’re constantly thinking about your business, but it’s also important to learn how to take breaks and for me, that’s working out. Working out has helped me so much with not only feeling good about myself, but also to keep me motivated at work!
Is there something you know now that you wish you’d known when you started your company?
This list can go on and on, but I think my #1 on this list has to be how much hard work & dedication it takes to have your own company. When you start your business, you have to think of it as a marriage- this is happening and you’re willing to do everything & anything for it to succeed. People typically say, “work smart, not hard”, but I really don’t believe in that because I think you have to “work smart AND hard” or else it’ll tank.
Since you work in an office full of women, I bet the energy in your office is very positive, encouraging, and loving! What does it mean to you to be a girl boss empowering so many other girls?
Like I mentioned above, it really is extremely rewarding and it’s empowering to me as well! There’s nothing like hearing the girls say they feel like they belong here and that it means a lot to them that they’re opinions matter. I think we always need to lead by example and I hope they take their experience at Bloguettes and become a good leader and empower other women outside of Bloguettes.
Let’s talk Fashion…
Describe your style in three adjectives
Simple, casual, and timeless.
What are your wardrobe staples?
I wear a lot of basics and my outfits are typically pretty simple, but I always love to accessorize things with either a bold lip or a hat!
If I peeked into your closet, what color would be the most prominent?
Black, for sure.
What fashion piece would you splurge on tomorrow if you could?
They’re a little too trendy now, but I’m obsessed with the Gucci loafers- I love the fur one, the heels, and the ones with embroidery!
Let’s talk Beauty…
What are your beauty must-haves?
Lashes for sure. I’m obsessed with lashes and I’ve had lash extensions since I was 17. If I’m walking out of my house, I absolutely must have lashes!
What perfume do you spritz on as you walk out the door?
Viktor Rolf’s Flower Bomb
What color nail polish are you currently wearing?
A simple nude. Tiramisu for Two by OPI to be exact!
Let’s talk Décor…
Describe your decorating style in three adjectives
Minimal, bright, and mid-century modern
If your mother taught you one trick about interior decorating, what would it be?
You can splurge on any type of furniture as long as it’s timeless.
What is your favorite piece of art or furniture you own?
I love my vintage mid-century modern wooden dresser I found at a vintage furniture warehouse here in Phoenix!
What’s on your bar cart?
I’m not a big drinker, so I’d probably just accessorize it really cute and never touch it once. Hah.
Let’s talk Travel…
Beach or Mountains?
Hmm… This is so hard. I love them both too much!
East Coast or West Coast?
West for sure!
What is your favorite destination?
I haven’t traveled too much outside of the country, but I’ve really enjoyed Prague, Tokyo, and Mexico City!
Are you planning any upcoming trips?
I travel a lot for work and I split my time between Phoenix and DC because my boyfriend lives there. My next trip will be back to Georgetown, Washington DC to visit my boyfriend!
Who is your favorite travel buddy?
Lorena! We travel a whole lot for work and we have so much fun traveling together. I obviously love traveling with my boyfriend next to Lorena.
What is your top bucket list destination?
Greece! I really would like to go to Santorini and Mykonos!
Let’s talk Phoenix…
What is your favorite part of living in Phoenix?
I love the convenience of Phoenix and the perfect weather. It’s so easy to hop in your car and run errands unlike it would be if you lived in a city and have to walk everywhere. Sure, the summers are really hot, but other than the summer, the weather here is absolutely perfect. I love the sun and there’s no gloominess here!
Fill in the blank: “On the weekend, you’ll find me at _____________.”
brunch with my friends, running errands, or at home relaxing! I’m gone a lot, so it’s always nice to enjoy a little downtime on the weekends at home rather than fill my weekend packed with events!
Best date night restaurant?
The Mission is a great, romantic restaurant and the food is SO good!
Best brunch restaurant?
The Breakfast Club is by far my favorite breakfast spot in Phoenix/Scottsdale area!
Best healthy food restaurant?
True Foods. It’s our second home. I am always postmating lunch from TrueFoods!
Best boutique(s) or shop/shopping?
I love T. Madison Shop and Vida Moulin in Phoenix. They’re both so different and they always have what I’m looking for!
Anything else we need to know about Phoenix?
I love Phoenix because of the community. We have such a great collaborative community and we’re always all willing to help one another. We have the Phoenix community to thank for our growth in Bloguettes and it really is a great city!
