The week before last, Edwin and I were in California for a few days of friends, family, and work. We were between San Diego, Laguna Beach, and Los Angeles. Taking in the sun and enjoying time with the people we miss so much since moving to the East Coast. My favorite part of the trip was getting to spend so much time with my best friend, Allison! We had an absolute blast and, when we were together, it felt like I never moved. We stepped out one morning in our favorite ruffle tops for spring to snap a few photos before we headed to lunch at Zinqué and a little window shopping at Lido Marina Village in Newport Beach. The sun was shinning and the girl talk was flowing so it was complete bliss!

When styling ruffle tops for spring, there are a few things to keep in mind and a few ways to master the look. Don’t forget that ruffles add a statement element to tops that usually translates into flouncy layers or extra volume. As a result, we suggest playing up on that in a number of different ways. First, you can go for the look I did and style a ruffle top with a skinny jean or tapered pant. This will help even out the effect of the ruffles on the top half of your body with a slimmer fit on the bottom. Add a pair of Hart Hagerty topknot earrings and you’re good to go!
P.S. my top is selling out quickly so I linked it to a few different retailers for different size options below but I also found this amazingly similar ruffle top for much less!
Another way to master the ruffle top trend is to keep the statement theme going with more of a statement bottom like Allison did. Allison rocked the look of the moment with a distressed hem high-waisted straight leg jean. They are so much fun! I’m trying to decide if I should snag her jeans. Or hunt for a different pair so we don’t walk out the door one day both wearing the same denim (I promise you, this would happen!). Another statement option would be to style a ruffle top with a bright skirt (like I did last year with Allison) so the whole outfit captures the eye.
P.S. Allison’s top is on sale for $42 so it is not to be missed for spring and summer!
I mentioned that Allison and I spent an afternoon at Lido Marina Village. So I wanted to share a little more in case any of y’all are planning a trip to the Orange County area soon. We both love it there so much as it is shopping heaven right on the water.
You can’t miss the Serena & Lily store or the Bixby & Ball store for home decor. I picked up a candle at Serena & Lily and Allison bought the most beautiful thank you gift for her future in-laws at Bixby & Ball. Pop into Sugar Paper to make all your paper dreams come true (you may remember seeing me at the Brentwood location of this store all the time when I lived in Sanata Monica).
Get your clothing and accessories shopping fix in at Jolie, Clare V, Jenni Kayne, Eberjey, Elyse Walker, and Broken English. Nibble at Zinqué, as we did, for fresh wine bar inspired bites or Nobu for sushi (and soon Malibu Farm!). I also bought my nephew books for his birthday at Lido Village Books.
