I know it’s a mixed bag when it comes to Valentine’s Day but I really love the holiday (I’ve had years without a Valentine too and I still feel this way). In all honesty, I love love! I maintain that Valentine’s Day isn’t just meant for couples; rather, it’s a great excuse to remind anyone you care about that you love them.
I think my parents kind of instilled this in me… my dad did and still does get my sister and me flowers for Valentine’s Day instead of just my mom. My mom always finds the cutest little gifts for us kids. And my mom celebrates Valentine’s with her girlfriends too so I grew up thinking it was a pretty inclusive love-filled holiday. Also, one of my most very favorite people in this world was born on Valentine’s Day so that gives me even more reason to enjoy the day!
Just because I love Valentine’s Day, doesn’t mean we make a big deal out of it. Edwin and I really enjoy the day but we keep it pretty low key. In fact, In the 10 Valentine’s that we’ve been together, we haven’t ever gone out to eat for dinner on February 14th. We have instead adopted the lunch date and then we prefer to stay in and cook a fun dinner! It feels perfect to us and I find that it’s one of my favorite lunches of the year.
No matter what your plans are, finding a cute outfit is part of the process. So, I thought it would be fun to share a couple different preppy Valentine’s Day outfit ideas with y’all so each one of you can look fabulous!
P.S. I’m not sure if “preppy” is the right word but I’m definitely not a “sexy” dresser for Valentine’s day or any day for that matter and preppy felt like the opposite of sexy, ha!

Preppy Valentine’s Day Outfits
Before we dive into outfits, don’t forget about Valentine gifts! If you live in Charleston, then I suggest picking up flowers or a lovely on theme gift from Out of Hand! The in-house florist, Out of the Garden, is my favorite in Charleston (they did our wedding flowers!). Out of Hand also has beautiful Valentine’s gift sets this year that are perfect gifts for yourself or your favorite Galentines!
Dressy Date Night Outfits

Original Posts: One / Two / Three / Four / Five / Six
For a dressy date night outfit for Valentine’s Day, I definitely suggest a dress or a lovely skirt and top. I would dictate the length of your dress or skirt based on the weather where you live. If it’s still very much winter where you live, then I’d also consider a jumpsuit! Below are some of my current favorite options!
Casual Lunch Date Outfits

Original Posts: One / Two / Three / Four / Five / Six / Seven
For a casual Valentine’s lunch date, I like an easy breezy dress or a pant with a cute top. I think jeans are totally fine in this case because it’s day time. If you are going on a lunch date for Valentine’s Day, then I’m guessing you don’t want anything over the top.
Cozy Date Night at Home Outfits

Even though you’re home, if you are trying to keep the date night vibe alive, then I suggest resisting the urge to slip into your pajamas (keep reading for pjs!). I’m pro being comfortable but still chic so I like cozy, cute sweaters and scarves!
Galentine’s Pajama Party Outfit Ideas

For a Galentine’s celebration, I love two different types of gatherings… 1) a fun, champagne filled night out (see dressy date night outfits above) or 2) a rom com movie night complete with adorable pajamas. I rounded up some of my favorite Galentine-approved PJs here:
