Last month, Edwin and I drove 35 minutes south of Charleston and spent two nights in a treehouse! During our stay, I shared some snaps on my Instagram Story and I received so many messages and questions about it so I wanted to dedicate a whole blog post to our stay at Bolt Farm Treehouse. My parents surprised us with the two-night stay as a Christmas gift and we were so excited to use it to sneak away for 48 hours. We booked our stay to line up with my birthday, which couldn’t have been more perfect! It was wonderful to have a few days immersed in nature. We lived a slow pace and unwinded in the best day! It honestly feels like a perfect peace to transport your spirit and feel a fantastic blend of youthful bliss. It is a place to go to feel like a kid again, without a care in the world. It is the most popular airbnb in South Carolina after all.

What is Bolt Farm Treehouse?
If you live in South Carolina, you might be familiar with Bolt Farm Treehouse as it is the state’s most popular Airbnb! If you haven’t heard of it, Bolt Farm Treehouse started as one treehouse but has now grown into a collection of treehouses in South Carolina. You can book your stay through Airbnb or through their own website. I recommend booking directly through their website and getting on the waitlist if you have any interest in going. Yes, it’s so popular that there is a waitlist!
The original treehouse is about 4 hours from Charleston in Walhalla, SC. In the wake of the success of the treehouse, the husband and wife owners decided to expand to the Charleston area with a handful of treehouses about 35 minutes south of Charleston (where we stayed!). Bolt Farm Treehouse advertises itself as an eco-friendly, adults only, tech-free nature retreat where you can be immersed in nature while living like kings and playing like kids. We loved the sounds of this! The treehouse has been likened to an adult escape (but it would be SO fun with kids too!). In all honestly, we were most excited about the “tech-free” aspect. While there was no wifi our cell phones did completely have service, which might be a relief to some but we were kind of hoping they wouldn’t! The sooner you change your pace upon arriving, the sooner you’ll experience that special kind blend of youthful bliss and grown up joy + appreciation for disconnecting.
Our Stay at Bolt Farm Treehouse
As I mentioned, my parents gave Edwin and me the two night stay as a Christmas gift last year. Knowing how popular Bolt Farm Treehouse is, I called to book our stay at the beginning of the year. I said we could go anytime up through May and we got the last two nights available for the treehouse my parents got our stay for. Like I said, it’s popular! The treehouse we stayed in is called The Honeymoon Treehouse.
As you can see in my photos, the treehouse is beautiful! Light streamed into the treehouse throughout the long May days and watching the sunrise from bed through the huge windows was so amazing. When we arrived, the treehouse was spotless too! The decor isn’t exactly my style and definitely feels like it was designed for an Instagram world but we seriously enjoyed it! The decor added to the whole experience of feeling like we were in another world and in a luxury treehouse.
What To Do
You might be thinking, what did you do at Bolt Farm Treehouse? The Bolt Fram Treehouse website has a wonderful FAQ page for each location, Walhalla and Charleston. On each, it spells out what you can do at the treehouse and in the area. At both locations, they encourage you to unwind and not plan out your entire stay. If you stay at the original Walhalla treehouse, I think you really can play like kings! It’s located in Oconee Country, which is completely surrounded by mountains and water so there is lots of hiking and a ton of water activities you can do. The Charleston locations offer less outdoor activities; however, if you’re from out of town, I think it would be really fun to do a busy, jam packed stay in Charleston and then follow it up with a relaxing night or two at Bolt Farm Treehouse.
The Charleston location was amazing for us because it was a super easy drive from home! We followed their advice and really took the opportunity to unwind. Once we arrived at the treehouse, we didn’t leave until our stay ended. We brought all our own groceries and cooked all our meals there. The most fun meal was the pizza we made for one dinner on their outdoor pizza stone! We played a lot of cards, we relaxed in the hot tub (there’s also an outdoor shower!), we sipped wine on the grass every evening, I read a whole book, we streamed a movie one night in the movie room (somehow, we didn’t take a photo of it but it was so cool!), and we just enjoyed each other’s company. Edwin has been traveling so much this year for work so it was fantastic to have undivided time with each other!
I had recently read Where the Crawdads Sing, which takes place on a marsh in North Carolina. Our treehouse was on the water and I truly enjoyed watching the tide come and go and rise and fall throughout our days. It was really nice to be staying in nature! Did I mention that the lightning bugs were dancing like crazy each night? It was so magical and brought me right back to my childhood summer trips to Georgia! P.S. speaking of bugs, I might not recommend staying in treehouses in June – September because of mosquitoes and no-see-ums. Keep in mind, this is coming from me who gets eaten alive.
What I Wore at Bolt Farm Treehouse
I went for super comfortable outfits during our stay. It was May so the weather was warm but not hot. I opted for a few flowy dresses like this adorable yellow ditsy floral midi dress. Yellow is definitely having it’s moment in the spotlight this year, which I’m all about (remember this yellow dress I wore?)! I’ve always thought of yellow as such a happy color. I like how easy this dress is to throw on and feel comfortable and confident in. It’s easy breezy and has pockets! I also wore these gorgeous palm statement earrings. The neutral color of the statement earring really balances out the earrings. They are so fun to wear in the summertime! P.S. you might remember this other flowy dress I wore on our stay… it’s a neutral lover’s dream.
Overall, I would absolutely recommend a stay at Bolt Farm Treehouse and tell you to put this on your travel bucket list asap! We had such a wonderful time and were so grateful to my parents for the amazing gift! It was all my mom’s idea and we were so surprised! Charleston has so much to offer and this little trip was another lovely reminder of that. I really was able to feel a thrill that can only be likened to a time of mentally and emotionally traveling back to childhood.
