It’s that time of year when I find shopping to be equal parts exciting, confusing, and stressful. I still see a lot of summer styles that I adore and want to buy but my mind is already drawing me onto the next, onto fall. In Charleston, we will have some lovely fall weather but it’s still not going to hit for a little while so it’s important that I be strategic with my shopping at this point in the year. With that in mind, I thought it would be fun to share one dress styled two ways: for summer and fall so y’all can see my thought process when I shop between seasons. I like to buy pieces that I can wear right now and pieces that I can wear in the months to come in order to maximize my potential wear/use of the item!
One Dress Styled Two Ways: For Summer
Summer: Dress (on sale!) / Purse (similar for less here) / Espadrilles (also love this similar fall color)
When I saw this dress available in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, I knew it would be a perfect piece to style in both the summer and the fall. The floral print is a nod to summer while the black and white color combo is a nod to fall. There is also a soft lavender color flowing throughout the floral print, which I think lends to the dress’s versatility. The length of a midi dress is one of my favorite lengths for summer but the length also keeps me covered up on chillier fall days. If you ask me, this is an all around perfect transitional dress! Did I mention it’s on sale at 50% off!?
One Dress Styled Two Ways: For Fall
Fall: Dress (on sale!) / Purse (old – similar, similar, similar) / Mules (on sale!) / Jacket (also love this style and this style)
For the summer (aka right now!), I’m accessorizing this dress with my favorite purse of the season, my net bag (similar for less). I wanted to bring out the lavender color in the floral print so I paired this dress with blush espadrilles (also love this similar fall color). I think the whole look is casual cool.
For fall, I want to make this dress appear a bit more sophisticated so I’m styling it with a pair of black suede mules. I also grabbed my favorite purse from last fall, a gorgeous burgundy mini satchel. It’s no longer available but I found a few similar versions here and here. Finally, at night in the fall I’ll need a jacket. I’d reach for a black cropped leather jacket, a suede motto jacket (more sizes), or a utility jacket (as seen here). My utility jacket is a staple in my wardrobe but I also love this style and this style.
Summer: Dress (on sale!) / Purse (similar for less here) / Espadrilles (also love this similar fall color)
Fall: Dress (on sale!) / Purse (old – similar, similar, similar) / Mules (on sale!) / Jacket (also love this style and this style)
