Hello, I hope you enjoy this post from 2015! For my always updated official Nantucket Travel Guide, head here!
Last week, my sister and I took a girl’s trip to Nantucket. It was my first time on the island and I completely fell in love! I loved it so much in fact that I’ve developed pipe dreams of owning a house there someday (this house would be nice!). Nantucket is so picturesque and the hydrangeas that cover the island are even more beautiful than they look in photos! We went from Tuesday to Thursday and maximized are time completely. It was so easy because JetBlue flies directly onto the island from JFK airport in New York City (they fly direct from Boston too). The only thing I would have changed would have been to stay longer! A complete Nantucket travel guide is coming next Monday but in the meantime, here is a peak at our trip.
Tuesday:
Tuesday morning, we landed at 8:30am so we had the full day ahead of us! We hopped in a cab and went straight to Black Eyed Susan’s for breakfast. It was delicious and clearly a local favorite as it was packed on a Tuesday. I got the veggies scramble with a side of grits and it was super yummy. Next, we checked into our hotel, 76 Main. I literally died over this hotel! It’s nautical vibe is so fitting for Nantucket and it is right in town so we could walk everywhere. After settling in, we rented bikes from Young’s Bicycle Shop and rode our bikes out to Siasconset beach and wandered around the cute little town before spending the day at the beach. While on the beach, we popped up to The Summer House Beachside Bistro for lunch. It is right on the beach so it was a great place to grab lunch and grab a cocktail. After spending a few hours at the beach, we rode our bikes back into the town of Nantucket – it was an 18 mile roundtrip bike ride! We showered and got ready for dinner. I wore my favorite floral jumpsuit from this spring to dinner. We went to dinner at The Galley. It was such a fun restaurant. When we made our reservation we requested a table on the beach, yup… it was actually in the sand! We watched the sunset and enjoyed clam chowder and fresh lobster. I highly recommend eating here or getting a glass of wine here to enjoy during the sunset.
Wednesday:
We started Wednesday off by biking to The Green for smoothies and breakfast sandwiches. The Green is a little outside of the main part of town so we felt like it was more of a local spot. On the bike ride back into town, I marveled at the gorgeous houses that cover the island. When we got back into town, we tied up our bikes and walked up and down the handful of main streets while we window shopped. I got a cute new Lilly Pulitzer dress at In The Pink, I snagged a few adorable greeting cards at Parchment, I picked up a Nantucket sweatshirt at Annie & the Tees, and I loved the interior decor pieces at The Lion’s Paw. To breakup the window shopping, we walked a little outside of town to grab lunch at Something Natural. They make fresh sandwiches that you can pick up or enjoy outside at their picnic tables. My sandwich was one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had! I spotted this gorgeous house on the walk back into town… pipe dream! Back in town, we window shopped some more before heading back to the hotel to relax and freshen up for drinks and dinner. We took a cab out to The Wauwinet for a few glasses of rosé. We drank our rosé outside overlooking the beach and took in another beautiful sunset. We ended the day by heading back into town for dinner on the patio at Met on Main. It was another yummy meal and the restaurant was just down the street from our hotel so it was perfect!
Thursday:
Our last day, ahhhh! We started the day by buying charms for our charm bracelets at Jewelers’ Gallery of Nantucket. We then did a 3 mile walk around the surrounding neighborhoods because every home is absolutely to die for! Next, We had lobster rolls for lunch at Cru. Cru is on the wharf right on the water so we got to watch boats come and go from the docks. After lunch, we popped into a few stores we missed the day before and enjoyed the gorgeous, sunny day. Sadly, we then had to pack up, check out of 76 Main (I want to live in this hotel!), and head to the airport for an afternoon flight back to New York.
I think I developed a lifelong love affair with Nantucket! I already can’t wait to go back!
Traveling to Nantucket looks like a lot of fun. I haven’t ever visited the South before. Perhaps I’ll take a trip there next year. I think it would be a lot fun to explore new places. What’s your favorite place to visit?
