For today, scoop on me moving to NYC + highlights {New York edition}. For those of you who don’t know, I’m a second grade teacher. I just finished my first full year of teaching, yippee! For my two month summer break, I picked up and moved to New York City with my sister. Our friend in New York moved to Paris this summer so it was a natural fit for us to take care of her apartment while she’s away. My sister is about to move to Vietnam in the fall to teach English so she had some transitioning time. Bingo! The timing of everything really couldn’t have worked out better!
We arrived in New York yesterday. We started unpacking and went to a girls dinner with friends at Rosemary’s. We had a delicious dinner complete with focaccia, salad, pasta, olive oil cake, and (of course) rosé. Today will consist of more unpacking, lunch (I’m thinking Jack’s Wife Freda), catching up with friends, and taking the train out to Montauk for the weekend. Be sure to follow along with all my New York minutes on Instagram, @jillianattaway.
In truth, I love the life I’ve got going in Los Angeles but I was getting an itch for a change. I’m a BIG traveler yet I still felt like I needed something a little more this summer. I’m lucky enough to have a job I love that also allows me to have the time to travel (teacher perks!). So, I knew I had to take advantage of it while I’m young and not too tied down. I feel like I resonate so much with the East Coast so that’s where my heart was pulling me. I also have a great group of friends and family in New York that I’m thrilled to spend more time with this summer! New York is a crazy city that people say can feel like home one minute and then feel like the farthest thing from home the next minute. Or, I’ve heard people claim New York can feel like home because there’s something for everyone but then not feel like home because you never truly identify. Right now, for me, it feels like New York is exactly where I’m supposed to be. Plus, my stay in New York is the perfect excuse to have friends come visit and to plan a trip to Maine with my boyfriend (we’ve both always wanted to go)! Stay tuned and happy Friday!
