Jackson Hole In October

filed under:

A week and a half ago, I was lucky enough to go to Wyoming to experience Jackson Hole in October. I went to celebrate my cousin getting married and had an absolute blast all weekend! I go to Jackson Hole Wyoming every summer in July and August, every Christmas, some winter ski weekends, and some early Septembers (for my grandpa’s birthday) but I had never been to Jackson Hole in October before. My, what a treat! It was so beautiful and covered with fall foliage! If you’re planning a trip to Jackson Hole to experience brightly colored fall leaves and cool crisp temperatures, then I recommend going the last week of September or the first two weeks of October. Jackson Hole is pretty far north so it only takes one freeze for the leaves to all fall off. Jackson Hole in October

Jackson Hole was on fire with brightly colored yellow leaves! Jackson Hole is the valley between the Gros Ventre mountain range and the Teton range so the valley turns completely colorful in October… particularly with yellow aspen trees. The views are honestly breathtaking. The above view is from around the corner of my grandpa’s house. My Barbour jacket was the perfect weight for the weather. I definitely needed it in the mornings and nights but during the day I could take it off and just wear a sweater or a plaid button-down. I wore my Clark’s desert boots every single day.

I ate out a couple times this trip at Wild Sage for dinner, Nora’s Fish Creek Inn for breakfast, and Persephone for brunch. I highly recommend all three spots – all are so delicious and all are really cozy for fall weather. The above photo is from the pumpkin adorned entrance to Persephone where I had hot cocoa with a huge homemade vanilla marshmallow on top, a fried egg sweet potato hash skillet, and a side of crispy bacon. I’m wearing my desert boots + a flannel (similar) and a fleece vest. While in town, I also popped my head into my favorite Jackson Hole boutique, Terra, for a little shopping!

It was tricky to decide what to wear to my cousin’s wedding because I wanted to wear a dress but I wasn’t quite ready for tights and I wanted to fit in with the relaxed mountain vibe. I decided to wear a short but long-sleeved dress (old – similar, similar, similar) and then layer it with a fur vest (similar for less). I love the look of navy and black together too so I liked the way my outfit came together! My sister, Sarah, totally pulled off the cute dressed up mountain look too with her plaid + skirt combo!

To say that I love Jackson Hole in October would be an understatement! I honestly don’t know why my family hasn’t been going in October all along. When planning a visit, keep in mind that summer starts most places Memorial Day weekend but in Jackson, July 1st is a safe date to visit on/after for consistent summer weather. Summer in Jackson lasts through Labor Day/mid September and then fall hits and runs in Jackson through mid-late October depending on the year. If you’re planning a trip to Jackson or ever have any questions about it please shoot me an email or read my complete Jackson Hole travel guide! I spill on everything from Jenny Lake to town square to the aerial tram. I love Jackson Hole and would be thrilled to help out! xx
