Did y’all know that my birthday is Cinco de Mayo!? I’m absolutely biased but I think it is the best day of the year to be born! Everyone is always in high spirits and more than ready to munch on some tacos and sip some margaritas with me. No matter the day of the week, it is always a lively day and a fun day to celebrate my birthday! This year, Cinco de Mayo happens to fall on a ‘Taco Tuesday’ so I hope y’all are planning to spice up your week next week with some Mexican food and festive libations.
My friends over at J.McLaughlin recently asked me to film a little video for them mixing up a favorite cocktail. It took me no time at all to settle on which cocktail recipe to share… my favorite strawberry basil margaritas! Just in time for Cinco de Mayo, these margaritas are light, refreshing, and flavorful without being too sweet. So, in effort to bring a little sunshine and a little slice of spring into your lives, I’m sharing how to mix the perfect strawberry basil margaritas with J.McLaughlin. Mixing these up this weekend will hopefully be a welcome (and tasty!) distraction from everything that is going on in the world. Staying at home doesn’t have to be all bad!

Now, let’s dive into the good stuff! Margaritas are a very popular and highly requested libation in my house. I’ve played around with many variations over the years but I always come back to the refreshing taste of this strawberry basil margarita recipe. These margaritas are easy to mix up and are always a crowd pleaser! Follow along as I share my step-by-step directions for how to make your own strawberry basil margaritas at home.

How To Mix The Perfect Strawberry Basil Margaritas With J.McLaughlin
Ingredients
1/2 pint fresh strawberries, sliced
1/2 c. blanco tequila
1.5 oz. Cointreau
1 lime juiced
1 tbsp raw honey
2-3 sprigs of basil, cropped
Crushed ice
Kosher salt

Instructions
Prep Your Glasses
To start, pour around ¼ cup of salt onto a small plate or dish. Then, take an already juiced lime and rub the rind around the edges of your glasses. Dip each glass into the salt plate to create a salted rim. Finally, fill each glass with crushed ice. Ta-da, your glasses are prepped!
Blend Your Ingredients
Add your strawberries, lime juice, honey, tequila, and cointraeu in a blender. Blend the ingredients on high until you see that your strawberries are completely blended.
Shake It Up
Finely chop your basil and muddle it slightly to release its natural flavors. Add your chopped, muddled basil to a cocktail shaker. Pour the blended strawberry margarita ingredients into your cocktail shaker on top of the basil. Shake, shake, shake!
Serve
Pour your cocktail shaker mixture into the salted, iced glasses and serve immediately. Pro tip, whip out your favorite cocktail napkins to serve your margaritas with and, when in doubt, have a dish of chips and guacamole ready to go as the perfect way to complete your happy hour! Cheers!
