For our honeymoon, we decided we wanted to do a little bit of island hopping so we started our trip on St. Lucia (here and here, more to come from St. Lucia) and then ended it on Mustique. Mustique is a tiny little island in the Caribbean island chain known as the Grenadines. So many people asked us how we picked to go honeymooning on Mustique and asked us how we had ever even heard of the tiny island so I thought I’d share a little more with y’all on here.
We have our amazing travel advisor to thank, aka my sister Sarah, for putting Mustique on our radar (more on her dream job here… p.s. she just got home from Mallorca for work! I love her photos!). St. Lucia is very popular with tourists and honeymooners so we wanted to balance out that experience with a more local feeling, quiet, and authentic Caribbean experience. Mustique was just the place!
Dress / Espadrilles / Clutch
To say we LOVED Mustique would be an understatement. The island brings about so many true and authentic Caribbean vibes that we were just head over heels. The island has some famous residents and is rich in history and stories of very prominent visitors including multiple royals (Princess Margaret as well as William & Kate).
It is essentially a private island but travelers can rent out villas on the island or stay at Cotton House (like we did!) or Firefly. The two hotels combined only offer up less than 20 rooms/villas in total so everything is incredibly intimate. We felt like we knew people who lived on the island within 24 hours! Keep reading for my Mustique recommendations…
This dress was a splurge item that I got specifically for our honeymoon. The dress felt so special and like a piece I would always look at and immediately be transported right back to the Caribbean. The bright, bold tangerine color just screamed Caribbean along with the pink floral print. I honestly fit right in and had multiple people tell me so, yay! I rounded up a few more tangerine + orange dresses for your below. It’s such a bright and unexpected color to wear that why not go for it this summer?!
My classic espadrilles and raffia clutch are two summer staples not to miss either. Both are reasonably priced so they are great purchases!
Honeymooning on Mustique
When visiting Mustique, there are a couple things I suggest not to miss!
– For starters, the hotel we stayed at, Cotton House, organizes everts on certain nights of the week including a Tuesday night cocktail party, Friday night happy hour, and Saturday night barbeque. Go to all these events even if it sounds corny! They are for everyone on the island including those who don’t stay at the hotel and rent/own their own villas. Everyone goes and it is so fun mingling with other travelers from around the world while drinking delicious rum punches. When Mick Jagger is at his home on the island, he is known to go to the Tuesday night cocktail party!
I also suggest the following:
– Rent a mule so you can drive around and explore the island yourself. Edwin and I did this and drove the whole island, which includes very fun dirt and sand paths to different secluded beaches.
– Spend a day on a boat to see the prettiest water you’ve ever seen at Tabago Cays. Charter Captain Wayne for the best possible experience… Cotton House and Firefly will know exactly who you’re taking about when you ask for him.
– Do a seaside picnic at Lagoon Beach. Cotton House will pack you the yummiest picnic complete with multiple courses and every beverage you can imagine. They will even set the whole thing up for you by the beach so it’s ready when you arrive! We loved this!
– Get active by playing tennis (the island has an amazing pro for lessons too!) or going horseback riding. Both are such fun ways to spend a morning outdoors.
– Enjoy sunset drinks are both Firefly and Basil’s. Firefly has the most stunning cliff and water ocean views while Basil’s sits right on the Caribbean Sea so you’ll be tempted to jump in the crystal clear water as the sun dips.
– Dine at The Veranda and The Beach Café for sushi, fish, and other delicious Caribbean dishes. We loved walking inside the Great Room after dinner at both restaurants for late night drinks and backgammon! We also ate dinner at local favorite, The View, one night and thoroughly enjoyed the food (p.s. The View has karaoke on Friday nights and both locals and travelers go!).
– Spa at Cotton House for a truly divine afternoon experience after a full day in the sand, sun, and surf.
