Well, I became a first time mom and the result is me posting about our third wedding anniversary a few months late, ha! On October 28th, Edwin and I celebrated three years of marriage. 2020 marked ten years of being together, which felt more exciting than three years of marriage but I never like to miss an opportunity to celebrate our relationship. When we got married, Edwin and I decided we’d take a trip together every year for our anniversary. We definitely realize that this might not happen every single year but so far, we’re three for three.
On our first wedding anniversary, we went to Vermont and on our second wedding anniversary, we went to Maryland. I love the idea of being intentional about marking our marriage milestones so I hope we can keep it up. Our anniversary trips so far have been wonderful opportunities for us to get away and have some undivided time together. This year, this was true but with the addition of our little love, Rowan. Celebrating our third wedding anniversary in Cashiers, North Carolina marked our first trip with Rowan. The driving destination was the perfect first traveling test run as us for parents and he did great! It was fun exploring with him outside of Charleston!

Celebrating our Third Wedding Anniversary in Cashiers
Edwin had a shoot that conflicted with our anniversary so we celebrated our anniversary a few weeks late in mid-November with our trip to Cashiers, North Carolina. We had previously been in the area in North Carolina for our babymoon but we stayed nearby in The Highlands for that trip so staying in Cashiers felt like a new experience. Since we were traveling with Rowan, we knew we wanted to stay in a rental house instead of a hotel. We were really hoping for a house that was walking distance to town so we wouldn’t have to be in and out of the car with Rowan nonstop.
We found the cutest little cottage that was literally perfect for us! The house was a hit because we were a five minute walk to the Cashiers town, we were able to snuggle up by the fire every morning and night, we cooked yummy dinners in the kitchen, the beds were super comfortable, and we had just the right amount of space.

Since we were traveling with a baby, we really utilized the house.
We cooked breakfast and dinner at the house every day, which was really cozy and relaxing. Each day, we set out on daily adventures (including Rowan’s first hike!) to enjoy the gorgeous fall mountain weather. The Cashiers and Highlands area of North Carolina is great for a mountain getaway. It’s about a 4-hour drive from Charleston. So it’s a pretty seamless getaway and such a welcome change of pace and scenery.
If you’re considering a trip to the area, read my recommendations for both Cashiers and Highlands in this post. I shared a roundup of where to stay, eat, shop, and explore. The hiking and fishing in the area are really highlights! There are also waterfalls everywhere! The area of North Carolina is also dotted with some delicious restaurants and a few lovely antique stores. It’s quiet but there is just enough to do to keep you busy (if you want to be) day-in and day-out.
As always, send me an email or a message on Instagram if you have any questions about the area and I’ll do my best to help!

Tell me, what do you do for your anniversaries?
Do you have traditions or special ways to mark the occasion every year? Three years isn’t a lifetime to be married or anything but, after having Rowan, I’m even more proud of Edwin’s and my relationship and proud of each passing year of time spent together. I feel like our committed and loving relationship is one of the greatest gifts we can give him.
I tell him all the time that he lives in a home filled with love and has parents who love each other and him more and more with each and every day. So I hope we set an example for him to look up to as he grows up and one day finds his match and starts his own family (gosh, I know it will be here in the blink of an eye… yes, he’s only 4 months old, ha!).

Thanks for reading how we enjoyed celebrating our third wedding anniversary in Cashiers, North Carolina. I already have ideas for our fourth wedding anniversary next fall! Stay tuned for later this year.
