A few weeks ago, Edwin and I were in California for a week of work and of seeing family and friends. One of my favorite days of the whole trip was when Allison and I snuck off for a day on Balboa Island, which is one of our favorite little slices of California Heaven in Newport Beach.
It’s such a cute area and while it’s small, it’s full of things to do and is one of my favorite places to go for leisurely scenic strolls on a sunny day. Allison and I both broke out two of our favorite spring dresses (mine is on sale!) and snapped a few photos along the way. I’m sharing our favorite spots on Balboa so keep reading below for all the scoop…!
On Jillian: Dress (on sale! comes in 2 more colors) / Sandals (on sale!) / Purse / Earrings (similar for less, similar for less)
On Allison: Dress / Shoes (old – similar, similar)/ Earrings (old – similar, similar) / Purse (on sale!)
I wore the most adorable navy eyelet number (on sale! comes in 2 more colors). I love eyelet so I knew I had to have this dress. I desperately need sun (I’m so pale!) but sometimes I really do like to have my shoulders and arms protected from the sun, especially on days when I know I’ll be outside for hours. I
appreciate the sleeves on this dress for that exact reason! My gingham sandals are SO swoon-worthy. J.Crew understands my heart! They are on sale too so such a steal right now. They looks equally smart and cute with jeans too. P.S. I love gingham as seen here, here, here, and here.
Allison and I definitely aren’t being shy about how much we love ruffles. I truly can’t get enough of the flirty ruffles on Allison’s floral dress, especially with the tangerine trim. It’s such a lovely mini dress option for spring and summer! We both have the purse (on sale!) that Allison is carrying. It dates all the way back to 2015 with this cheerful outfit post. Three years later and we both still reach for it constantly in our closets!
With summer around the corner, I bet some of y’all are planning trips to California! There are so many magical places up and down the California coast that it can be hard to decide where to allot your time.
Well, I might not be helping out because I’m here to add another must-stop spot to your California travel bucket list… Balboa Island off Newport Beach! It’s an adorable little island that’s so easy to get to; all you have to do is drive over a cute little bridge. Keep reading for my top suggestions for what to do on Balboa Island… oh and don’t forget my top suggestions for Lido Marina Village.
Once on the island, Allison and I suggest indulging in one of the island’s famous Balboa Bars at Dad’s – I got a traditional banana balboa bar dripped in chocolate and sprinkles while Allison got an ice cream bar dipped in chocolate, nuts, and sprinkles. Both are delicious! If you don’t love ice cream, then you can get your sweet fix on a yummy summer day at Balboa Candy.
We also love the monogram store, Sandcastle (my mom agrees and calls it one of her most favorite monogram shops!). There are a couple not to be missed restaurants including healthy (ish) spot Free Range (get the poke bowl), intimate French restaurant Basilic, and the hip Royal Hen (go with friends and get the burger!). Allison knows Newport Beach much better than I do so I always love learning all the best spots from her!
