It’s already July 10th, my oh my. Today’s post, 5 Life Updates July 2023, is a quick little update on what’s going on with us this month. July is so fun because we’re in full swing with summer and time is flying by. At the same time; however, the sun stays up for so long and our days are full of so many outdoor activities while we’re out west that the days are slow in the best possible way. We’ve been waking up and just seeing where the day takes us – the lake, the pool, hiking, kayaking, the park, etc. Slow but full summer days where one day bleeds into the next is the good stuff.
It stays light in McCall, Idaho until nearly 10:30pm at night so Edwin and I have enjoyed having multiple hours of daylight to ourselves after putting our boys down for the night. On Thursday night, We took Rowan and Henry out to an early Mexican food dinner. Later that night when our boys were sleeping and my parents and brother were home eating their dinner, Edwin and I went for a golf cart ride and walk around the neighborhood. It was such a gloriously peaceful way to end the day and connect between the hustle and bustle of our boys and balancing work with travel.
I wore this lovely Mirth dress in the prettiest summery floral print comprised of teals, tangerines, olives, and dusty pinks. I matched the sunset and nature around me, fitting right in with Idaho’s gorgeous landscapes. The print comes in 5 other silhouettes including a top and a skirt, as seen below. When it comes to Mirth, my favorite silhouette is the ‘Vienna Maxi’ dress. I have it in a print from last year but love this year’s print too. It is one of those dresses that is so comfortable, easy, and soft that I could wax poetic about my love for it. The dress I’m wearing in this post is just as good. At the very bottom of this post, I rounded up some similar styles and pieces in similar colors for a relaxed mountain summer. Enjoy!

5 Life Updates July 2023
We’re in Idaho Most of the Month
We flew out west to Idaho on July 1st and have been enjoying our mountain time so much. Edwin and my brother were here until yesterday. But I’m staying with Rowan and Henry for two more weeks so we’ll be here for the majority of July. It is such a treat for us to escape the heat of Charleston for the mountain and lake life. Everyday brings something new whether that’s taking boats out on the lake, beaching on the lake, swimming in the pool, discovering new hikes, playing pickle ball, kayaking different streams, picnicking, playing at the park, paddle boarding, the list goes on. If it’s outdoors, we’re doing it!
The TV hasn’t been turned on once for my kids since we’ve been gone on Nantucket before this and now here in Idaho. That reminds me of my summers and I feel is the ultimate sign of living summer to the fullest. We’re outside non-stop and so wiped at the end of the day from playing that Rowan has completely forgotten TVs even exist. If we were home in the heat, I’m sure we’d be taking tv breaks so I am grateful.
Henry is Taking Solo Steps
Woot woot! Henry is taking solo steps and learning how to walk. We are so proud of him and love watching him explore the world through the eyes of a walker. He will take a handful of steps at a time and then pause to stand or fall on his tush and clap for himself. It is absolutely adorable and incredible to see our little 15-month-old (tomorrow!) feel so proud of himself. I’m excited to see Henry takeoff when he masters walking.
Edwin Has A Semi-Big Birthday
Edwin turns 35-years-old tomorrow! I say a semi-big birthday because the half decade birthdays always feel a bit bigger than the others (outside of actual decades, of course). Edwin had to fly back to Charleston for work. So we celebrated his birthday early on Saturday night with our boys. A big birthday cake exclaiming “Happy Birthday Dad!” made our boys smile from ear to ear. I’m feeling really optimistic for Edwin’s 35th year. I hope it brings work success and lots of personal happiness. Edwin is our #1!!!
Celebrating 13 Years Together
On July 3rd, Edwin and I celebrated 13 years together (we’ll have our 6th wedding anniversary this fall). We never do anything for our dating anniversary but we always verbally and emotionally acknowledge it, reminiscing with smiles on our faces and hearts in our eyes about the summer we got together. So much has changed in 13 years and life with Edwin is richer than I ever could have guessed. Cheers to us and the work we’ve put into 13 years of togetherness!
We Put The Boys In The Same Room
We put the boys in the same room! But we didn’t put them in the same room at home in our real life but we have on our travels and it has been brilliant. Previously, Rowan and Henry have only slept in the same room when we’ve gotten stuck traveling somewhere and had to stay in airport hotels. However, when we went to Nantucket last month we put them in the same room and did again here in Idaho. I wasn’t entirely sure how it would go with sleeping but it has been great. They LOVE going to sleep together and giggle and chat between their cribs.
Henry dropped his morning nap so they are 100% on the same schedule. And the ease of being in one room, especially when traveling, is lovely. Since we’ve been out of town and playing so hard, they are both tired so they’ve been taking great naps. Everyone says kids transition to sleeping together effortlessly and I would say that I wholeheartedly agree. I’m not sure when we’ll put them in the same room at home but it’s definitely something I’m thinking through.
