The amount of backlogged blog posts I want to write and hit publish on is too many to count. I haven’t been as regular of a poster since becoming a mother and especially since becoming a mother a second time. I attribute it to the ages of my children and my choice to not have full-time help. However, I’m determined to make an effort to be more regular on here. In that spirit, I thought I’d share a mix of 13 icebreakers – aka a fun little way to share something about myself since I’ve taken so many long stretches of being absent on here.
At dinner last week with my family on Nantucket, I asked everyone about a time they’ve been taken for a ride or been swindled. It was so fun because the prompt was one that elicited wild responses. My Dad shared a story from a trip to Jamaica in the 80s, Edwin shared a story from a trip to Mexico a few years ago with his best mate, etc. Edwin also has a great story about how he ordered a surf board online and a month later a boogie board showed up at our front door. I will never let him live it down. Have you ever been taken for a ride? Below are 13 icebreakers to answer yourself or to ask around the dinner table tonight + my responses to the questions.
At the bottom of this post, I’m sharing some other embroidered dresses I love right now. My embroidered Saloni dress is an everyday showstopper though!

Saloni Dress (also love this colorway) / Loewe Purse (similar: one, two, three, four) / Prada Espadrilles (similar: one, two, three, four, five)

13 Icebreakers: My Responses
1. A time you’ve been taken for a ride.
Edwin and I went to Mexico once right out of college and stayed at a hotel that we bought on Groupon or a site like that – I can’t even remember. It was the only time I’ve ever used a site like that so it feels very random looking back, ha! It was hysterical because even though it was purchased through a deal type site, it was absolutely not what it was sold to be. We decided to fully embrace it because there wasn’t really any other option (we tried to move hotels but literally everything was full). The entire hotel staff ended up loving us at the end, partially probably because they knew and they knew we knew that we’d been taken for a ride. Everyone was in quiet agreement and understanding, ha!
2. Go-to karaoke song?
I have a lot. I loveeee Karaoke. A go-to in the last few years has been “B—h” by Meredith Brooks. Everyone knows every word but hasn’t heard the song in a while so it’s a big crowd pleaser. Nineties music in general always wins with karaoke.
3. French fry style of choice?
Chick-fil-A waffle fries or shoestring fries.
4. Favorite movie?
It’s A Wonderful Life. Others include: Father of the Bride I & II, You’ve Got Mail, Almost Famous, Something’s Gotta Give, It’s Complicated, The Family Stone, and The Thomas Crown Affair. Two movies I randomly really love are Something Borrowed and A Lot Like Love.
5. If you could change places with someone for a day, who would it be?
There are so many different directions I could take this questions. I might say Kate Middleton to see the history she lives in and experiences everyday and to see how hard working she is. I also think people like LSD, Tory Burch, and Aerin Lauder would be fascinating to see a day in the life of and to see their homes in the city, the Hamptons, Palm Beach, etc. Other people I might also say would probably be fashion people or big fashion editors.
6. Biggest celebrity sightings?
I’ve actually randomly seen a lot of celebrities. Perhaps the most famous celebrity sightings I’ve had are Justin Bieber or Prince William and Kate Middleton.
7. Favorite memory tied to a holiday.
This is really hard to say but I might go with always skiing a half-day on the afternoon of Christmas Day in Jackson, Wyoming. I can’t really think of a more special way to spend Christmas except to hopefully do just that with my children one day.
Other contenders would be celebrating the Fourth of July and two of my best friends birthdays every year growing up at the Blue House or Easter brunch at The Cloister with my grandparents.
Another semi-legit answer (I say semi-legit because it took place on July 3rd, instead of July 4th) would be July 3rd, 2020. It was the day Edwin and I started our life together as we know it in St. Malo.
I keep thinking of more! One more would be Labor Day weekend 2017 – Edwin and I drove across country from Los Angeles to Charleston staying with family and friends on our way to move to Charleston. We again started our life as we know it together, in an entirely new way, with our life in Charleston.
8. Are you a realist, a pessimist, or an optimist?
I am an absolute optimist so much so that it can be a negative at times when I don’t understand why everyone doesn’t see the world in the same optimistic light that I do.
9. What could you talk about for hours?
Names. I could talk about people’s names, baby names, the origin of people’s names etc. for hours on end. Names tell such a story.
10. Oxford comma, yes or no?
Yes.
11. House you carry in your heart.
The Blue House, my grandparents beach house. I loved this house and she loved me back. She gave me some of my most golden moments. Not a day goes by that I don’t think about her.
12. Character trait you find most attractive in other people.
Confidence first and foremost followed closely by a sense of humor and humility.
13. When you die, what do you want to be remembered for?
I want to be remembered for the way I made people feel and for the children I raised.
