When Edwin and I were heading home from the Hamptons, we were delayed in New York City due to cancelled flights. We were driving from my aunt and uncle’s house in Sag Harbor to JFK for our flight to Charleston when we were notified of our flight cancellation. The airline couldn’t get us out until the crack of dawn the next morning so we unexpectantly spend 12 hours in New York City. Luckily, we were able to stay at my aunt and uncle’s apartment in the city (PHEW!) so we decided to turn lemons into lemonade and to hit the ground running with our limited time in the Big Apple!

I wore this cotton poplin midi dress on Nantucket to dinner one night and decided to slip back into in for our New York outing because it happened to be right on top of my suitcase. The floral dress is so comfortable that it was perfect to wear out from afternoon to evening to night in the city. I shared it on my Instagram Story and you wouldn’t believe how many messages I received asking me about this dress! My dress on major sale so now is the time to buy! The dainty blue floral print also comes in a few other dress styles below.
12 Hours in New York City
We dropped off our bags, changed, and went straight to The Met. I was so excited to have the opportunity to see The Costume Institute’s ‘Heavenly Bodies’ exhibition that I nearly ran to the museum! I was so impressed and in utter awe of the exhibition just as I am every single summer. Edwin got quite a thrill from it too. I’ve been to The Met more times than I could count but this was Edwin’s first visit, so we thoroughly enjoyed experiencing it together!
After wandering The Met, we took a lovely stroll through Central Park. It was a pretty humid day and I thought I we would be traveling so please forgive my fluffy, frizzy hair! As always, Central Park was beautiful. By now, we worked up a bit of an appetite but it was too early for dinner so we popped around the corner into Sant Ambroeus for an appetizer and a glass of wine. Next, we migrated a block down to my favorite place in all of New York, The Carlyle. We both enjoyed a second glass of wine and took in the live music and people watching (aka my kind of New York minute!). Finally, we met one of my best friends for dinner downtown to cap off the whole night!
I’ll take any excuse to go to New York City.
It’s my favorite city in the whole world (other than Charleston!). I never feel as charged and excited as when I’m in New York! Who else is with me?! xx
